Statement on Caring for Mothers and Babies
Scroll Down for More Details and to Add Your Name to the Statement!
We are an alliance of healthcare practitioners who advocate for authentic healthcare for women and babies both during and after pregnancy. We include a variety of physicians, including those directly caring for mothers and babies in the fields of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, and more, but also those whose practice may be less directly connected to mothers and babies, but who are compelled to advocate for these patients. We also include nurse practitioners and nurses caring for women and babies.
Together, we have published the following statement:
As healthcare practitioners, we continue to provide and advocate for the highest level of care for pregnant women and babies, all in accordance with Louisiana restrictions on elective abortion. We are confident in our ability, and the ability of our colleagues, to address the needs of patients without undue hesitation even when patients face life-threatening medical emergencies, miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, or other complications.
We encourage you to join us in adding your name to this statement. Please scroll down to read more details and sign the statement.

Dear Fellow Healthcare Practitioners:
We are an alliance of healthcare practitioners who advocate for authentic healthcare for women and babies both during and outside of pregnancy. We consist of a variety of physicians and nursing professionals including those directly caring for mothers and babies in the fields of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, and more. Just as importantly, our alliance is made up of those whose practice may be less directly connected to mothers and babies, but who are compelled to advocate for these patients.
We are writing to request that you join us in signing the statement above. The statement is a simple affirmation that healthcare practitioners continue to provide excellent care to women and babies and have been able to do so within the parameters of Louisiana’s restrictions on elective abortion. It is our hope that this statement will provide clarity to the public in the midst of confusion and inspire confidence among our fellow practitioners despite the narrative painting healthcare professionals as fearful and hesitant.
Our goal is to collect signatures from healthcare practitioners throughout the state, especially those who provide care to women and babies during and after pregnancy. We acknowledge that our fellow practitioners have varying opinions on the ethics of elective abortion, and this statement is neutral on those viewpoints. Nonetheless, the common bond between signees is that we can provide quality care for women and babies, even in emergencies, and Louisiana’s restrictions on elective abortion have not diminished or prevented our solemn commitment to the practice of good medicine.
While we prefer that our fellow practitioners participate publicly (allowing us to print your name), we understand this is not possible for everyone. We have included an anonymous option. For those who select this option, we will not release your name to the public. To maintain the legitimacy of the statement, we ask anonymous participants to list their location, specialty, and number of patients seen on average per year. For example: "Baton Rouge OBGYN who sees over 1,000 patients a year.”
We ask that you assist us in sharing this letter with colleagues. Thank you for your consideration.
